What is SEO for? As explained in our previous emails, the goal of Search Engine Optimization is to have your website placed at the top of the search results. In doing so, you bring more traffic to your site, which equates to more sales, more conversions, and more money…
There are a few different ways to place your website at the top of the first page of the search results, and I would like to focus on those before moving on to best practices. Those ways include:
- Organic Search – Built from information collected from spiders as they traverse the Internet, indexing website content for inclusion in search engine result pages. Listings are free and placement is usually determined by the relevance of the content
- Sponsored Links (PPC) – Costs money for placement in the search results. The most common type is Paid Per Click in which listings are guaranteed to appear in response to particular search terms, and advertisers bid for the highest position in the search results.
- Paid Inclusion – A newer form of search in which advertisers pay to have their webpages included in the search engine index, with ranking usually determined by the content within the pages.
Search Engine Optimization is focussed on Natural of Organic Search. SEO is the process of designing webpages with relevant content to secure an optimal position in the crawler-based listings. Another important reason to do SEO is that a 2004 study shows that 60% of web visitors found organic listings more relevant than paid listings for purchase decisions.
SEO is a must have strategy to have to secure a top position to insure targeted web visitors find your site when they are looking for products and services. SEO is a cost effective solution because high rankings can mean exponential increases in your traffic to your site.
